The number of residential property sales recorded by HM Revenue & Customs and the Land Registry plunged by 53.4 per cent to 46,440 in April compared to the same month last year.

April’s figure was also 46 per cent lower than the number of residential property transactions in March and corresponds with the start of government lockdown restrictions on moving house.

Non-residential transactions were down by 45.2 per cent year on year and by 22 per cent month on month to 5,930 in April.
